A new milestone is being celebrated in the construction of the Sydney Metro.

For the first time a giant boring machine has broken through to the new underground station at North Sydney.

Victoria Cross Station, which is 25 metres below ground, is the biggest station on the metro project.

In just over two months the tunnel has been extended from Crows Nest to North Sydney.

The next stop on the metro construction line is the edge of Sydney Harbour at Blues Point.
